Media: “Nord Stream” sabotage with trail to Poland

In investigations into the explosions at the “Nord Stream” pipelines in the Baltic Sea, investigations in Germany are following traces to Poland, according to a media report.

There are indications that a team suspected of sabotage could have used Poland as a base of operations, according to the Wall Street Journal (Saturday edition). It is based on the evaluation of data from the sailing yacht “Andromeda”, suspected of having been used to sabotage the pipelines.

Investigators fully reconstructed the ship’s two-week voyage using data from its radio and navigation equipment, satellites, and cell phone and email accounts. They found that the yacht had deviated from its course to enter Polish waters.

Report: Explosives for both lines

According to the report, investigators assume that the explosives used are HMX, suitable for destroying underwater infrastructure.

Following the suspected placement of explosives on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, the yacht’s crew headed for Poland and then returned north to possibly attach explosives to Nord Stream 2. Germany’s Federal Criminal Police and the German Prime Minister’s Office Poland initially did not respond to Portal inquiries.

Ukraine planning attack?

The Washington Post reported a few days ago that three months before the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines, the United States learned of Ukrainian plans to attack the natural gas pipelines. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy then denied his country’s involvement in the attack.

Russia pumped natural gas from Siberia to Germany and other European countries through “Nord Stream 1” until the delivery stop. “Nord Stream 2” was not put into operation because of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The two twin tubes were seriously damaged by explosions in September 2022.
