Representatives of indigenous communities from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Bolivia continued deliberations this Wednesday at the first meeting of indigenous nations and peoples of the Andean region, based in La Paz, the latter country’s administrative capital.

The delegates at the meeting will discuss, among other things, the topic of migration, the rights of Mother Earth, the fight against the climate crisis and the defense of democracy.
The meeting started the day before and will last until this Thursday. The President of the Bolivian Chamber of Deputies, Jerges Mercado, attended its inauguration.
The meeting aims to strengthen integration processes and promote cooperation and dialogue between the countries of the region, as well as greater understanding and solidarity between their indigenous peoples.
According to local media, the results of the consultations will be presented in a final report that will serve as a basis for future cooperation initiatives.
The President of the Andean Parliament, Gloria Flores Schneider, recognized that integration is essential to advance as peoples and to face planetary challenges that have major impacts on the region, such as climate change and migratory processes.
The supranational parliamentarians help to strengthen integration processes between peoples and communities as well as between states and governments.
It is a figure created by the constitutional mandate, represented in the parliaments of the Andes, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Interparliamentary Union, the Native Americans and Afro-descendants of the Americas, the Amazon and Mercosur.
