The sports competition for veterans and injured military personnel launched by Prince Harry began on Saturday (September 9th, 23rd) and just yesterday the Duchess of Sussex arrived in Germany, in Düsseldorf, where the event took place.

The former actress therefore gave her first speech during the Family & Friends evening. “It’s so special to be here, even if I’m a little late to the party,” she told guests. As many of you know, Invictus and Fischer House were founded to bring family, friends and community together and I needed to spend a little extra time getting our little ones ready for home. »

She said she dropped off her two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, at school before boarding her flight from California to Germany. “Three milkshakes, one stop at school and I landed a few hours ago. I am very excited to host my first Invictus Games event with you. It’s great and I heard it started pretty well,” she added.

Prince Harry’s wife then thanked the Fisher House Foundation for their support of the event. The organization helps families of hospitalized military personnel and veterans. Nearly 100 Fisher Houses were built in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. “I had the opportunity to visit one of their homes in Los Angeles a few weeks ago and was so touched by everything they do,” she continued. Rehabilitation has a lot of importance and has to be experienced as a family, not just a solitary experience, as (the organization) knows, but you do it too, and my husband does it too, creating the Invictus Games. I am very proud to be part of the Invictus family with all of you. »

The Invictus Games, in which wounded soldiers and veterans compete in sporting events, were founded by Prince Harry in 2014.
