Meghan’s £18m Spotify deal is FINALLY underway

Meghan reveals her new Spotify podcast called ‘Archetypes’ which will ‘analyze, explore and subvert the labels women try to hold back’ as the £18m deal finally kicks off.

  • Meghan will speak with historians, experts and women about who she is.
  • The Duchess of Sussex vows to investigate ‘labels that try to hold back women’
  • At the end of 2020, Meghan and Harry signed a lucrative £18 million deal with Spotify.
  • Until today, they have released only one show – a special holiday show featuring Archie.

The Duchess of Sussex has launched her first Spotify series, a podcast about female stereotypes in which she vows to investigate “labels that try to hold back women.”

Archetypes will be launched this summer and Meghan will speak to historians, experts and women who have experienced the role model.

In the Archewell Audio trailer released today, Meghan said, “This is how we talk about women: the words that educate our girls and the way the media reflects women to us…but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they continue to appear and shape our lives?

“I will have conversations with women who know all too well how these generic images shape our narratives.

“I’m Megan and this is Archetypes, a podcast where we analyze, explore and debunk the labels that try to hold women back.

“I will have conversations with women who know all too well how these generic images shape our narratives. And I’ll talk to historians to understand how we got here in the first place.

Archetypes – coming soon. Listen only on Spotify.”

“And I’ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here.”

The announcement of Archewell Audio’s debut podcast series with Spotify comes after Meghan and the Duke of Sussex raised concerns about misinformation about Covid-19 on the platform.

At the end of 2020, Meghan and Harry signed a lucrative deal with the audio streaming giant to host and produce podcasts, valued at around £18 million.

But so far they’ve only released one show, a special holiday show featuring their son Archie and celebrity guests.

Spotify and Archewell Audio said today, “Spotify and Archewell Audio value responsible management of the soundscape and, as recently explained, are committed to working closely together to uphold transparency and strict principles of trust and safety.”

In January, Neil Young reportedly offered Spotify an ultimatum to remove either his work or the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, which is known to air vaccine skepticism.

When the singer later left the streaming platform, Joni Mitchell announced the same move “in solidarity” with his decision.

The Sussexes’ charity said at the time that they had expressed concern, but the couple were determined to continue their work with the organization.

Last week, a spokesperson for Archewell Audio confirmed that its first series will air in the summer and that they have been working closely with Spotify on a policy to minimize the spread of misinformation.

Meghan has long been an advocate for women’s empowerment.

Spotify and Archewell Audio described her conversations with typical women as “uncensored” and said the Duchess would delve into the origins of the stereotypes.

Former Suits actress Megan also serves as an executive producer on the series, along with Ben Browning, head of content for Archewell, and Rebecca Sananes, head of audio for Archewell.

The podcast will be produced by Archewell Audio in partnership with Gimlet Media for Spotify.
