According to Variety magazine, actress Melissa Barrera was fired from production of “Scream 7,” the next film in the horror franchise, because of comments she made on social media in support of Palestinians and the people of the Gaza Strip.
Publishing sources at the film series’ studio, Spyglass, claim that the decision was made following publications in which the actress referred to Israel as a “colonized” country.
The company declined to comment on the case to Variety and the actress did not respond to contacts.
Barrera played the franchise’s new protagonist in the last two films. “Scream” (2022), the fifth chapter of the series that was responsible for its resurgence at the box office, and “Scream 6” (2023).
