(CNN) – Melissa Barrera spoke out after it was announced that she was fired from production on Scream VII.
The actress was one of the youngest stars in the series and was supposed to be part of the next part. However, this is no longer the case after he made social media posts about the war between Israel and Hamas, which the studio behind the film described as anti-Semitic.
A spokesperson for Spyglass, the company behind the “Scream” franchise, issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter regarding Barrerra’s departure.
“Spyglass’ position is clear: we have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortions or anything that blatantly crosses the line of hate speech. Hate,” the statement reads.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Barrera and Spyglass for further comment.
On Wednesday, Barrera released a statement on his Instagram Stories.
“First of all, I condemn anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. “I condemn hatred and prejudice of any kind against any group of people,” he wrote. “As a proud Latina and Mexican, I feel a responsibility to have a platform that gives me the privilege of being heard, and that’s why I’ve tried to use it to raise awareness about issues that are important to me, and to lend my voice to them in need.”
He further wrote: “Every person on this earth… deserves equal human rights, equal dignity and of course freedom. “I believe that a group of people is NOT their leadership and that no government agency should be above criticism.”
“I pray day and night that there will be no more deaths, that there will be no more violence and that there will be peaceful coexistence,” he concluded his statement. “I will continue to speak for those who need it most and I will continue to advocate for peace and security, for human rights and freedom. Staying silent is not an option for me.”
Instagram stories expire 24 hours after they are published.
Barrera played Sam Carpenter in both 2022’s Scream and this year’s Scream VI.
