Mentlberg Innsbruck Animal Shelter: “Please, no animals as a Christmas present!”

An animal is not a toy and does not belong on the Christmas tree, hence the appeal of the Mentlberg Innsbruck animal shelter.

INNSBRUCK. It’s not uncommon for dozens of four-legged friends to end up in animal shelters or on the street after Christmas. If you want to have a pet, you must be sure that it fits the current family situation. Add to that the costs of the vet, food and care. In addition, it should also be clarified whether certain allergies to pet dander run in the family. The head of the Mentlberg Innsbruck animal shelter, Vanessa Rachlé, appeals to people who plan to donate live animals at Christmas. “Please, no animals as Christmas presents! It’s really unreasonable because you have to think twice about taking responsibility for an animal for years. Dogs and cats in particular can easily reach 16 to 17 years of age and you must be aware of taking on the time and costs of food and a doctor,” Rachlé told district newspapers.

Christmas delivery freeze

“We are currently on frozen sales and only donating animals where we have known interested parties for a long time. Sadly, we have to let people down who call now and would love to have another kitten. We learned from experience, because many who got an animal before Christmas brought it back after two weeks at the most”, says the director of the animal shelter.

christmas market at the animal shelter

The Tyrol animal protection association organizes a Christmas market in front of the Mentlberg animal shelter every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 7 pm. In exchange for voluntary donations, visitors can expect mulled wine, non-alcoholic punch and small delicacies. In addition, there is a stand with handmade Christmas and New Year gifts. The Christkindlmarkt is a good alternative for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Innsbruck’s crowded markets. You can still visit the Christmas market at the Mentlberg Animal Shelter until December 23rd.

Help with animal sponsorship

If you want to help animals but don’t want to keep one, we recommend an animal sponsorship. With a sponsorship you know exactly what the monthly contribution will be used for. For only 15 euros per month (minimum amount) you can do something good. The Mentlberg Animal Shelter offers animal sponsorships, project sponsorships and departmental sponsorships. The sponsor receives a sponsorship certificate that includes the name of the animal welfare sponsor and his/her protégé. If the sponsored animal is placed privately, due to the death of the animal or the release of the animal into the wild, you will be informed and given the option to terminate the sponsorship or support another sponsored animal. The amount paid is tax deductible.
