Merkava IV: What the tank used by Israel in the Gaza offensive looks like
In its offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army has a major ally: the Merkava IV tank. The military vehicle is leading the country’s advance into Palestinian territory due to its military capacity and its protection system against enemy projectiles.
The tank is the fourth generation of the Israeli Merkava series and began mass production in 2004. According to the Israeli Defense Ministry, 400 vehicles of this type are in service in the country’s army, with dozens more remaining in reserve.
The biggest advantage of the Merkava IV is the trophy system, which was developed by a company in collaboration with the Israeli Army. The device acts as a “shield” for armored military vehicles as it can detect and neutralize enemy projectiles.
