In his blessing “urbi et orbi” he lamented the conflicts, oppressions and famines that afflict the world. He calls for an end to “this senseless war” in Ukraine.
At noon on December 25, all Catholics in the world look to Rome. Then the Pope addressed a Christmas message to them “urbi et orbi” (to the city and to the world) and led them to the Holy Land as if on a single path. The Holy Land, fixed point of Christianity, place of birth, climax. The Church knows the inexorable decline of Christians in their cradle, but she will support them forever.
Hence the Pope’s insistence in this Nativity 2022: we must “look to Bethlehem”. We need to taste “the gift of peace” from “Jesus.” We must “overcome the false images of the party that make us forget who is being celebrated”. We must “contemplate the event: the Son of God born for us.” We need to see in “this innocent little face that of children striving for peace in every corner of the world.”
