Metas Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are down worldwide, leaving hundreds of thousands of users unable to access the social media platforms.
A source within Facebook told that the company's internal systems were also down, which may have led to Tuesday's outage.
The issues began around 10:20 a.m. ET and are affecting the apps and website of all social media sites.
DownDetector, which monitors online outages, shows that more than 200,000 Americans are having problems with Facebook, but over 30,000 have reported the same with Instagram – Messenger has just over 8,000.

DownDetector's outage map shows New York City in the red zone, along with Boston, Chicago and major cities in California.
In addition to the United States, the outage has also reached the United Kingdom, parts of Europe, China, Australia and Mexico.
Most problem reports mention problems with the apps – 72 percent for Facebook, 64 percent for Instagram and Messenger is 50 percent.
