Grocery distribution company Metro dedicated a brand new automated distribution center in Terrebonne on Wednesday.

The construction of this center was announced by the company in 2020.

Three years and a $420 million investment later, this new infrastructure allows Metro to bring together the existing Montreal-North distribution centers for meat and frozen products and Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles for seafood products on the same site.

The administrative offices will employ more than 500 people, while the distribution center will house 250 people.
“Our new automated distribution center will help improve the quality of service and products sent to grocery stores through greater order accuracy and reduced processing times, in addition to improving the resilience of our supply chain,” said Caroline Larocque, vice-president of logistics and sales for Quebec, in a press release .

With a total area of more than 600,000 square meters, the equivalent of more than 10 football fields, the nine-story building houses two separate areas for around 7,000 fresh and frozen products.
“We are now even better equipped to deliver the right product, at the right time, in the right store, and efficiently,” added Ms. Larocque.
