Mets Call Brett Baty After Hot Triple-A Start – New York Post

Brett Baty is on his way back to the big leagues.

The Post’s Mike Puma confirmed the Mets are calling their top infield prospect after his stellar start to the season for Triple-A Syracuse.

Baty, 23, will join the Mets in Los Angeles Monday to begin a three-game streak against the Dodgers, reports The Post’s Joel Sherman.

The third baseman hits .400 with five homers, 15 RBIs, two steals and 1,386 OPS in 42 plate appearances in Triple-A.

Baty, ranked No. 19 in baseball according to MLB.com, was sent to Triple-A to start the season despite a strong performance during spring training.

In a cameo in 11 games with the majors last season before undergoing thumb surgery, Baty hit .184 with two homers and five RBIs.

Veteran third baseman Eduardo Escobar got off to a slow start for the Mets, hitting .114 with one home run and six RBIs in 49 plate appearances.

The 34-year-old will start at third base and battle eighth for the Mets’ series finals against the Athletics in Oakland on Sunday.

“The kid deserves it,” Escobar said of Baty. per Mike Puma of The Post. “He deserves whatever he’s getting.”

The Mets face their first sweep of the season.
