Mexican airline Viva Aerobús suspends flights from Cancún Cuban Directory

The well-known Mexican airline Viva Aerobús will stop its flights from Cancún International Airport, the famous Aztec resort, to Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, from the beginning of 2024, according to specialist media.

According to this information, the direct connection between Cancun and Quito offered by the Mexican airline will be discontinued from the first quarter of 2024. This route opened on June 16, 2023 with three weekly flights and competes with Avianca Ecuador, which also had the same frequency between the two cities. But apparently the lawsuit didn’t work as expected.

Avianca Ecuador was the first company to change its offering and announced that it would only fly to Cancun during peak tourist seasons such as Carnival and the months of June to August. Now Viva Aerobus has also decided to cancel its flights between Quito and Cancún, according to its reservation system. The last flight would take place on January 8, 2024.

This means that one of the new direct routes opened this year from Quito, alongside Medellín and New York, will be without the Viva Aerobus service from January next year.

Viva Aerobús flights to Cuba

This Aztec airline maintains several flights from Mexico to Cuba this month of December 2023. For example, there is a daily flight from Mexico City to Havana Airport. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from Cancun. Saturdays from Mérida. Thursdays and Sundays from Monterrey. There are also connections to Santa Clara, Camagüey and Holguín, among others.

Also in November of this year, Viva Aerobus, one of Mexico’s largest low-cost airlines, announced that it would expand its flights to the United States starting in 2024.

This plan became possible after Mexico regained Aviation Safety Category 1, which allows it to operate to more international destinations. The new routes depart from Monterrey International Airport and connect six American cities: Austin, Denver, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Orlando.
