Mexico City, December 17th. (Adnkronos/Dpa) – Twelve people were killed in an attack by armed attackers during an Advent celebration in central Mexico. A dozen more people were injured when attackers opened fire on protesters in the city of Salvatierra, Guanajuato state. This was announced by the city authorities. The attack occurred during the Posadas celebration, which depicts the biblical search for refuge by Mary and Joseph in the period leading up to Christmas. Guanajuato is the state with the highest murder rate in Mexico. The drug cartels Santa Rosa de Lima and Jalisco Nueva Generación are at loggerheads in the most important industrial region in the center of the country.
