At least 18 migrants, mostly from Venezuela and Haiti, died in a bus accident in southern Mexico on Friday morning. Prosecutors in the southern state of Oaxaca said the victims included two women and three children and 27 people were injured.
The bus overturned on a winding stretch of highway. According to police, there were 55 people on board the vehicle.
The injured were transported to two hospitals in Puebla state, which borders Oaxaca, where they are receiving free treatment.
“We deeply regret the fatal accident on the Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan highway, in which several migrants died,” said the governor of the state of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, on X. “Our government officials are already providing assistance to those affected”
