The state of Chiapas in southern Mexico broke the Guinness Book record for the largest ball of Oaxaca cheese ever made, weighing a total of 558 kilograms.

Eighty workers from ten cheeseproducing companies gathered in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas to break the Guinness World Record for the largest quesillo ball commonly known as Oaxaca cheese or string cheese.
The final product weighed 558 kilograms, was made from 6,000 liters of milk and took four hours to prepare.according to Mexico News Daily.
The event was overseen by a Guinness World Records judge. This stipulated that the team had to maintain sanitary conditions throughout the process, produce a final product with at least a somewhat spherical shape, and be finished in a maximum of eight hours.
The cheese ball almost doubled the previous world record of 350 kilograms from the neighboring state of Oaxaca.
The new record was broken in Campo Milenio in the municipality of Pijijiapan on the Pacific coasthalfway between Chiapas’ borders with Oaxaca and Guatemala.
After the record certification, participants were able to take home portions of the cheese in containers and plastic bags.
