Gastronomy The prestigious annual award for excellence in cuisine comes to Como: the area wins twice but loses a star.
There are two new stars on Lake Como. This time, however, we are not talking about Hollywood stars, but about good local cuisine. At the heart of gastronomic culture tonight are the Al Lago restaurant, the Hotel Sereno in Torno and the Trattoria Contemporanea in Lomazzo, with their chefs Raffaele Lenzi for the first and Davide Marzullo for the second.
They were awarded two Michelin stars, one each: a real recapture for Lenzi, who lost them when Andrea Berton left the restaurant in Torno, and an unprecedented satisfaction for young Marzullo, who had been the winner of the television show Antonino Chef Academy with Antonino Cannavacciuolo (an internationally renowned chef who took home three Michelin stars that evening).
Michelin star for Raffaele Lenzi – Chef Sereno al Lago Restaurant in Torno
Michelin Star for Davide Marzullo – Contemporary Trattoria in Lomazzo
The emotions for local chefs do not end here. In fact, while the presentation was still ongoing, it was announced that the chef from Como, Ettore Bocchia, one of the fathers of molecular gastronomy in Italy, the Mistral of the Grand Hotel in Bellagio, has lost his Michelin star.
The Michelin star – annual recognition – is awarded to restaurants that offer excellent cuisine. Five criteria are taken into account for awarding the prize: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of the flavors, the mastery of the techniques, the personality of the chef that is expressed in his cooking and, just as important, the consistency over time that whole menu.
