Singer Michelle Branch has filed for divorce from husband Patrick Carney after being arrested for domestic violence and announcing their split.

TMZ reported that Branch, 39, filed the divorce documents in Tennessee on Friday, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.

Branch, who shares two children with Carney, has asked for child support and custody but has asked Patrick to have time with her children.

She also wants her ex to pay for her legal fees.

The musicians must also complete a parental court order “which the judge orders in all cases from that particular court,” writes TMZ.

Branch announced her split from Carney on Thursday, and the night before, Branch reportedly tweeted that Carney cheated on her, according to TMZ. The tweet no longer appears on their account.

She was arrested on August 11 after allegedly beating her husband.

Branch, 39, was arrested around 3 a.m. Thursday in Nashville, Tenn., after police received a call about a possible domestic disturbance, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department told DailyMail.com.

The Everywhere singer admitted to slapping the Black Keys drummer about twice in the face before police arrived. She was held on $1,000 bail and later released because she was breastfeeding her six-month-old daughter, Willie Paquet Carney.

In her mugshot, Branch can be seen with a red birthmark under her eye, which she’s known for often covering up.

No visible injuries were seen on Carney, 42, according to TMZ.

Branch was 18 when her music career took off. She rose through the ranks when she released her debut album The Spirit Room in August 2001, which included her first hits Everywhere, All You Wanted and Goodbye to You.

Carney shared in Branch’s success when he produced her 2017 album Hopeless Romantic and they began dating while putting the album together.

Branch is scheduled to appear in court on November 7 on her domestic assault charges.

The arrest comes after the couple announced their separation after three years of marriage.

Branch previously said she “pulled the rug completely out from under herself” in a statement announcing her split from Carney, obtained by People.

“To say I’m completely devastated doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about myself and about my family. I’ve had the rug completely pulled out from under my feet and now I have to figure out how to move forward,” she said in her statement. “With children so young, I ask for privacy and kindness.”

Michelle met Patrick, a music producer and drummer for The Black Keys, during a Grammy party in 2015. Shortly after the duo began dating, before welcoming a son, Rhys James, in August 2018.

The two married in April 2019 and welcomed their second child in February 2022 after suffering a miscarriage in 2020.

Prior to her relationship with Carney, Michelle was married to bassist Teddy Landau. They share 17-year-old daughter Owen Isabelle Landau.

Landau was bassist in Branch’s band before the two married in 2004.

The singer separated from Landau in 2014, the divorce was finalized in 2015, the same year she met Carney at a Grammy party.

After the release of “Spirit Room” in 2001 – which included her hits “Everywhere”, “All You Wanted” and “Goodbye to You” – Branch continued to pursue her career.

She also released Hotel Paper and the country album Stand Still, Look Pretty in 2003 as part of the duo The Wreckers with Jessica Harp.

Branch also released the 2010 EP Everything Comes and Goes and the 2017 album Hopeless Romantic.

Her next album, The Trouble With Fever, is due out on September 16, 2022.

Michelle has received Grammy awards for her work over the years.

She won a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2003 for her track with Santana, The Game Of Love. In all, Michelle has received four Grammy nominations, including her win for The Game Of Love.
