DETROIT — Michigan on Friday reported 1,661 new cases of COVID-19 and 33 virus-related deaths — an average of 830.5 cases over the past two days.
Friday’s update brings Michigan’s total number of confirmed COVID cases to 2,080,612, including 32,863 deaths. Those numbers are up from 2,078,951 cases and 32,830 deaths on Wednesday.
The deaths announced Friday include 27 identified during a Vital Records review.
From next week, MDHHS will only update COVID data on Wednesdays.
Testing has risen to an average of 50,000 to 60,000 diagnostic tests per day, with the 7-day positive rate as of March 25 at 3.57% – still near the lowest since July 2021. Hospitalizations are in the last few years declined weeks, now to the lowest total since last summer.

The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 623 on Wednesday. The 7-day average for deaths was 21 as of March 31. The state’s case fatality rate stands at 1.6%.
REMINDER: Michigan will reduce frequency of reporting COVID data starting next week as cases fall
Michigan has reported more than 11.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of March 24, with 70.6% of residents over the age of 16 having received at least one dose, while 64.8% of residents over the age of 16 considered complete vaccinated apply.
In the overall Michigan population, 66.5% have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine.

More than 79.9 million cases have been reported in the United States, with more than 976,000 deaths from the virus reported, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 10.8 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, with more than 557 million doses in the United States alone.
Globally, more than 479 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 6 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The true numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited testing, different ways nations count the dead, and deliberate under-reporting by some governments.
