Michigan State is cutting ties with a third-party source after an image of Adolf Hitler was displayed on the scoreboard at Spartan Stadium before Saturday’s college football rivalry game against Michigan.
“We deeply regret the content displayed as it is not representative of our institutional values,” MSU said in part of its statement. “MSU will no longer rely on third-party sources and will implement stricter review and approval processes for all videoboard content in the future.”
It was not immediately clear what third-party source it was.
The photo appeared about 80 minutes before kick-off as part of a quiz challenge and quickly went viral.
The incident occurred on the same day that Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll was found fatally stabbed outside her home, and came amid heightened global sensitivity about rising anti-Semitism amid the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war.
