Michael Savarino, grandson of recently retired Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski, has entered the transfer portal.
Last season, Savarino averaged 2.3 minutes and 1.1 points in 11 games as a junior. He’s presumably looking elsewhere for opportunities to earn more playing time for his final year of eligibility.
Stadium’s Jeff Goodman was the one report first that Savarino is leaving the Duke program.
In November, Savarino was quoted for DWI. Duke star Paolo Banchero was in the car and was cited for aiding and abetting DWI.
Savarino was banned for around a month.
“We suspended and fined him,” Krzyzewski said when his grandson returned to court. “We didn’t kick him out and have him flogged in front of everyone and he still has some work to do legally but it’s all being done right. Especially for children in college, university and in the program we should serve as an umbrella so that they have the opportunity to grow under this umbrella.

“Obviously we don’t condone what happened. There are a lot of things that happen to kids on campus that we wouldn’t condone, but it happens. You don’t sell them down the river. The only way to get better is to acknowledge that you did something wrong, accept the punishment and learn from it.”
