The Hollywood couple launched the GoFundMe “Stand With Ukraine” campaign on Thursday to raise $ 30 million for Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, which they say are “two organizations that are actively working on the ground, providing immediate assistance to those who are most “They need it a lot.”
Kunis was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine – then part of the Soviet Union – and moved with her family to the United States at the age of seven. While acknowledging everything America has done for her and her family, she said she can’t help but forget her roots.
“Today I am a proud Ukrainian,” the Black Swan star said in a statement shared on the fundraising page. Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in times of need.
“Our family is launching this fund to help provide immediate support,” she wrote, “and we will raise up to $ 3 million.”
According to the fundraising page, freight carrier Flexport is organizing deliveries of humanitarian supplies to refugee sites in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova. Airbnb.org provides non-profit, free, short-term housing to refugees fleeing Ukraine.
Kunis also appeared with her husband in a video shared on his Instagram account, where she spoke about the “devastating” conflict in Ukraine.
“The events that took place in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity,” Kunis said.
In the video, the 44-year-old Kutcher applauded “the courage of the people in the country where (Kunis) was born”, emphasizing to his 4.4 million followers on Instagram “the needs of those who have chosen safety.”
The couple are the latest stars to show their support for Ukrainians affected by the conflict. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are also raising funds to help refugees in the country.
“In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes in neighboring countries. They need protection. When you donate, we will match it to $ 1,000,000, creating double support, “Reynolds wrote on Twitter on Saturday, encouraging donations to the UN Refugee Agency.
According to the UN, one million refugees have fled Ukraine in just one week.
