247 Argentine Presidentelect Javier Milei, a farright libertarian, has decided to admit lawyer Rodolfo Barra, a former member of a neoNazi group in Argentina who was arrested for an attack on a synagogue in the 1960s, to the office of the National Treasury appoint CartaCapital.
The lawyer was previously Minister of the Supreme Court (19891993) and Minister of Justice (19931996). Regarding this last position, Barra resigned under pressure from the press, which was precisely due to allegations of his past in the Naziaffiliated group Movimiento Nacionalista Tacuara. Upon leaving office, he declared: “If I were a Nazi, I would regret it.”
However, as head of Argentina’s Ministry of Justice, the lawyer was responsible for enacting the gag law, restricting press activities, increasing penalties for “slander and insults,” and allowing the confiscation of items without judicial authorization.
