In a mega-decree with almost 300 changes to the law, the new president of Argentina, Javier Milei, wants to radically liberalize his country. There were furious protests that night. The left is calling for a general strike.
Javier Milei began dismantling the Argentine State on Wednesday. Surrounded by his ministers, the libertarian president presented an emergency decree on Wednesday that would immediately repeal laws, abolish dozens of government regulations, allow the privatization of public companies such as the oil company YPF and open the door to doing business in foreign currencies. Several of the almost 300 legal changes contained in the mega-decree aim to make the labor market and the health system more flexible.
