Poverty is growing
According to the Argentine Social Debt Observatory, poverty in Argentina increased from 49.5% in December 2023 to 57.4% in January 2024. The director of the facility, Agustín Salvia, believes that there is no risk of social collapse.
“The social situation is serious, but we are not facing a social collapse as we are not entering an unemployment crisis despite the ongoing recession. “In this context, strong inflation in December, together with inflation in January, led to an increase in the poverty rate from 9% to 14%,” he notes.
