Argentina’s libertarian presidential candidate Javier Milei filed a complaint with the Federal Court alleging that a “colossal fraud” took place in the second round of voting in favor of the government candidate, Economy Minister Sergio Massa. which will take place on Sunday (19).
According to the Clarín newspaper, Karina Milei, the candidate’s sister, and the lawyer Santiago Viola accused the National Gendarmerie (a security force with military and police characteristics) of altering “the contents of the ballot boxes and the documents” in favor of Massa. They claim it is a “colossal fraud.”
According to the complaint, members of this force “together with the regional chiefs” “changed the contents of the ballot boxes and ballot boxes” after the ballot box authorities handed over the documents and ballot boxes to the gendarmerie […] in favor of the ruling party and Sergio Massa, which significantly changes the election result.”
The events allegedly occurred in the city of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Misiones, Chaco, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, La Rioja, Jujuy, Santa Cruz and Formosa.
“[Tratase de] “A colossal fraud, the only way of detection of which lies in the publication of all cases, but essentially in the strict control of the ballot box transmission by the electoral authorities,” declared Milei’s coalition in the petition calling on the Argentine Air Force and Navy to participate “ “more active” in the security of the electoral process.
In an interview with broadcaster C5N, Security Minister Aníbal Fernández announced that he would file a criminal complaint against Milei’s coalition.
“What the gendarmerie, i.e. the town hall, the federal police and airport security, does in these cases is to be present at the places assigned to them. Imagine taking a course that teaches you how to do the stupid thing these people are talking about? Would it be 500 or 50 people? Do you think it is possible to keep the secrets of 50 people? It’s very stupid,” he said.
