At least 3,500 federal agents will be part of the security measures around Parliament in view of the speech that President Javier Milei will give this evening to the chambers assembled to mark the opening of the legislative year.
Access to the streets around the building will also be closed and cordoned off starting this morning, and an additional 1,500 Buenos Aires police officers will be on standby if necessary. The massive deployment of forces is linked to the announcement of protests called by opposition parties, left-wing organizations and social movements in front of Parliament today.
The government, through Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, has already warned that it will implement the anti-picketing protocol, which does not allow protesters to block road traffic, and that unrest will not be tolerated.
