In a letter to Brazil, Milei rejects an invitation to join the BRICS countries
In a letter to Brazil, Argentine President Javier Milei expressed his intention to refuse his country's accession to the Brics countries.
If the invitation is accepted, Argentina's formal accession would take place from January 1, 2024.
“Some decisions of the previous government (former President Alberto Fernández) are being reviewed. This includes the creation of a special unit for the active participation of the country (Argentina) in the Brics (…),” wrote Milei.
The letter arrived in Brasilia on December 22 and was also sent to the leaders of the other BRICS countries.

During the last Brics summit in August 2023, the group's members decided to expand the bloc, a debate that has already been discussed.
O The group decided to formally invite six countries to become new memberssaid South African President Cyril Ramaphosa: Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The debate over the expansion of the Brics block was high on the agenda at the meetings in Johannesburg.
The six invited countries must meet certain conditions to participate in the group from January 1, 2024.
