Javier Milei's government announced a new protocol against street demonstrations in which the armed forces will take action against anyone blocking roads during protests in Argentina. Security Minister Patricia Bullrich announced this on Thursday 14th.
“This is not a problem of ideology. It is a problem of understanding that the country must live in peace and order once and for all. Let's organize the country so that people can live in peace. The streets must not be taken over,” he said at a press conference.
The speeches come amid the announcement of a tough package of economic measures to curb inflation, which hit 161% annually in November. In addition, a large demonstration with the participation of trade unions and social organizations is expected next Wednesday, the 20th.
Bullrich also said that a register of social organizations guilds, unions and clubs that are “inciting” the protests will be created. “The state will not pay for the deployment of security forces; those who will pay will be organizations or individuals.” [envolvidos em protestos que supostamente bloqueiem ruas]“. However, she did not explain how this prosecution would work.
For children and young people, protective authorities will be notified and parents will be held responsible for taking their children to protests during school hours. “We will not allow them to be used as protective shields,” he assured.
