Miley Cyrus once playfully slapped Flavor Flav for calling her Gwen Stefani: 'We laughed about it'

Flavor Flav's first encounter with Miley Cyrus at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2012 didn't go well as he accidentally mistook her for Gwen Stefani.

The Public Enemy rap legend, who turns 65 next month, couldn't tell the difference between the pretty platinum blonde singers, even though Miley was 19 at the time and Gwen was 42 at the time.

“I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm so stupid,'” Flav (née William Drayton Jr.) admitted on “Just B with Bethenny Frankel” last Thursday.

“Slapped me in the face.” She slapped me in the face. Miley Cyrus punched Flavor Flav in the face and I said, “I'm not letting that happen again.” We laughed about it.”

When the hip-hop hype man met the 31-year-old pop star backstage at the Grammy Awards on February 4, they hugged him after he called out her real name.

“You know it’s me! I did it!' Miley exclaimed at the Crypto.com Arena in LA.

“You don't think I'm Gwen Stefani anymore. 'You called me Gwen every time I saw you.'

“I know,” Flav admitted, to which Cyrus assured him in response, “I love it.”

The couple then exchanged “I love yous” before she pointed to Flav's signature watch chain and said: “You know what time it is!”

The Grammy Lifetime Achievement winner uploaded the encounter to Instagram with the cheeky caption referencing the Flowers hitmaker's first Grammy win: “My girl Gwen Stefani… I mean MILEY CYRUS give my girl her flowers!”

Flav will next voice a mysterious character alongside Rainn Wilson, RuPaul, Anitta, Hannah Gadsby and Lilly Singh in Cinzia Angelini and David Feiss' animated film Hitpig, which hits UK cinemas on April 19th.

The Used to Be Young singer makes a cameo appearance as groupie and artist Tiffany Plastercaster in Focus Features' road trip comedy Drive-Away Dolls, which hits US cinemas last Friday and UK cinemas on March 15.

Ethan Coen's solo directorial debut also stars Margaret Qualley, Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, Beanie Feldstein and Geraldine Viswanathan.
