On Thursday, at the military celebration of All Souls’ Day at the Annabichl cemetery, the soldiers who died in the two world wars, the victims for Austria’s freedom and the soldiers who died on duty and in peacekeeping missions were remembered.

On Thursday morning, representatives of municipal and state politics, as well as numerous military personnel, gathered at the Annabichl cemetery to honor the soldiers killed in the All Souls’ Day celebration. In addition to Mayor Christian Scheider and State Governor Dr. Peter Kaiser, Deputy Mayor Mag. Philipp Liesnig and Brigadier Mag. Philipp Eder, the new military commander of Carinthia, were also present at the ceremony.

“I have been participating in the All Souls celebration at Annabichl Cemetery for decades. All those who died are remembered here, especially the soldiers who lost their lives in the world wars. At the same time, the celebration is also present and future. We live again in a world full of threats. There are armed conflicts in Ukraine, Israel and many other parts of the world – innocent people of all generations are dying. War always means innocent victims, endless suffering and great despair. We all have a responsibility to prevent armed conflicts. It is important to work together with our neighbors for a good and peaceful future.”
Mayor Christian Scheider

The memorial service was led by Catholic military chaplain Rector Military Mag. P. Anselm Kassin OSB and Protestant military chaplain Rector Military Mag. The speeches once again underlined the importance of maintaining peace, especially in times of uncertainty.
