According to portal G1, the official letter was sent in response to the invitation of Defense Minister General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, who proposed a meeting between the technical teams of the TSE and the Armed Forces on June 15.
According to Nogueira, the purpose of the meeting is to “resolve possible technical differences” that have arisen in the work of the board and to “discuss the proposals put forward by the armed forces”.
In the new letter, Fachin specified that the Commission is the forum for technical discussions and interinstitutional dialogue on the electoral process.
He reiterated the invitation to General Heber García Portela, the armed forces representative in the mission, to take part in the dialogue.
The minister also noted that the vast majority of proposals presented at the panel were adopted, indicating the “public commitment of the electoral justice system to the realization of a pluralistic dialogue” not only with institutional partners but also with civil society.
Such a commission was created last year to increase transparency and security at all stages of the preparation and conduct of the fair elections scheduled for October 2nd.
The college has experts, representatives of civil society and public institutions in the monitoring and verification of the electoral process.
In the last few weeks, the TSE and the Minister of Defense exchanged content on questions from the Bundeswehr regarding the election system.
Nogueira sent the TSE a document on June 10 on the court’s technical responses on the electoral system, stating that it was not yet possible to discuss the armed forces’ proposals.
On this occasion and within the framework of this reciprocity, Fachin sent a text to the department three days later in which he explained that he had “high regard” for the Bundeswehr and that dialogue was necessary to strengthen democracy.
Brazilians will go to the polls to elect the President of the Republic, state governors, senators and deputies at the federal, state and district levels.
Opinion polls are increasingly confirming that former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as the favorite and far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro, who is seeking re-election, will be the main protagonists of the polarized vote.
