It’s worth noting that Barcelona’s Ministry of State has accused the singer of failing to pay €14.5 million in taxes to the Spanish Treasury during the period the pop muse lived in Spain between 2012 and 2014.
The MP also mentioned that the voice of the hit “Don’t Wait Up” transferred the amounts received from the sale of his musical compositions, around 30 million euros, to companies operating in several countries such as the Netherlands, the Virgin Islands, Luxembourg, Malta and Panama.
The investigation also uncovered other financial assets of the singer in New York, the Bahamas, Barcelona, Uruguay and Barranquilla, the hometown of her exhusband, player Gerard Piqué. She also had access to Shakira’s deals on musical reality show The Voice and products launched under her name, such as the perfume Dance.
Will Shakira end up in prison?
Recently, the Barcelona Ministry of State called for Shakira to be jailed for more than eight years for tax fraud.
Although the singer’s defense disagreed with the course of the case, the lawyers reported that she had already returned the amount requested by the Spanish Treasury and therefore believed that “there are no outstanding debts to the Treasury”.
