Mini’s new Cooper EV centers a giant circular OLED on the dashboard

The unveiling of the 2025 Mini Cooper EV showcases a facelift, increased range and a huge, round OLED screen floating in front of the dashboard. The company says the Cooper E and Cooper SE – the two EV variants – have a range of 190 miles and 250 miles, respectively, as calculated using the European EV test cycle. (Those numbers could drop to about 175 miles and 215 miles, respectively, using the EPA test cycle, according to Ars Technica.)

But about the large OLED touchscreen that now floats in front of the center of the dashboard, instead of the embedded rectangle on previous models. The company introduced the Cooper’s redesigned interior earlier this year with videos showing off the screen’s animations, and then released another release with more detailed information about its capabilities. Also featured on the screen is Spike, a CG dog that represents the “full-fledged voice assistant” the company announced a few months ago. (If you don’t like the dog, there is also the “stylized representation of a mini” option.)

As you cycle through the “Mini Experience Modes,” which alter the vehicle’s handling and responsiveness, Mini says the interior lighting, instrument cluster and OLED screen will take on colors that match the mode’s atmosphere.

Voice control can be activated by “Hey Mini” and, as you can imagine, is used for navigation, phone calls, in-car entertainment, and “numerous other vehicle functions.” The company also says that the car will learn from your routine when you regularly drive the same routes and, for example, can learn to automatically roll down the window in the same place. The Android-based mini operating system 9 runs on the display.

Mini says the 184 hp Cooper E can get to 60 mph from a standstill in 7.3 seconds and has 214 lb-ft of torque, while the more powerful 218 hp variant of the Cooper SE, which is a Offering 243 lb-ft of torque, it does this in 6.7 seconds. The Cooper E uses a 40.7 kWh battery and the Cooper SE has a capacity of 54.2 kWh.

Finally, although the body style is still broadly consistent with previous designs, there are some changes. The oval headlights’ LED bezels now feature a coordinated “welcome and farewell animation” and “three adjustable light signatures,” while the rear of the car has been equipped with angular lights that can also be personalized, as you can see in the TikTok video above.
