It will be Geneviève Guilbault’s turn as Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale. She assures that the decision has nothing to do with her ties with Quebec Mayor Bruno Marchand.

“It has nothing to do with a relationship problem with Mr. Marchand, on the contrary, we’ve talked a lot for two or three days,” the CAQ member reacted a few minutes before participating in the CAQ by-election round, at Brosard.

According to our information, the outgoing Minister of Public Security informed Prime Minister François Legault of her intentions before her vacation this summer. She felt like she had given everything she had to give.

“I really enjoyed being Minister of the Capitale-Nationale for four years […] We still have nine MPs in the Capitale-Nationale, seven in Chaudière-Appalaches, and I’m sure they would all be excellent to fill those roles,” Ms Guilbault explained.

As a Member of Parliament in the Quebec region, she will continue to contribute to regional issues, she stressed. “It’s important for us to be deputies.”

Ms. Guilbault’s relationship with the Quebec Mayor hasn’t always been easy. The sparks between the minister and the mayor were mainly in the tram file. Mr. Marchand had even come out publicly to demand that the government stop meddling in local jurisdictions.

On Thursday, Ms Guilbault suggested statements by the media could suggest there was tension when there was nothing.

“You may have the impression… but not at all. We have a very good relationship and he is very happy that I was re-elected, in any case he congratulated me,” she added.
