The seizure also took place in Italy for the dietary supplement Epimen plus, which is also sold online as a natural product but contains the active ingredients of Viagra and Cialis, i.e. sildenafil and tadanafil. Following the warning from Rasff, the European Food and Feed Alert System, the Health Ministry has so far ordered the seizure of 23 batches, the ministry’s website reports, which recommends “not consuming the product”. The dietary supplement could actually cause health problems considering that medications containing sildenafil and tadanafil, although commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction, can have contraindications and side effects. The Ministry explains that these are “substances with a pharmacological effect and therefore not permitted in food supplements”, in particular Epimen plus, which are not reported at all to the Ministry of Health. The seizure concerns packs of two 450mg capsules manufactured in China and marketed on the internet by a company in Croatia.
