The real estate fair has been taking place on the French Riviera since March 14, 2023. And with around 21,000 visitors, there are many more than last year at the venue.
The Mipim real estate fair is currently taking place in Cannes – until March 17, 2023. But what themes determine the events of the fair? Everyone is talking about the likely rise in interest rates. No one can say exactly what will happen in six months and how the continued rise in interest rates will affect us. With what expectations did local real estate experts travel to Cannes?

“The weather has certainly been better,” said Michael Ehlmaier, CEO of the EHL Immobilien Group, in a broadcast on Wednesday on the occasion of Mipim. “Compared to the conversion of the real estate sector to the requirements of the EU taxonomy, inflation and the consequent increase in interest rates will only concern us in the short term. This trend is tangible at almost all Mipim stands and will continue to be the dominant theme for years to come,” says Ehlmaier.

Clear to cloudy – that’s the (good) weather in Cannes. Private
The fact that developers and investors are always looking for new challenges is nothing new. However, they scrutinize purchasing decisions and building projects more closely than they did before the pandemic and crisis. “The investment area is the most difficult. If this only happened in Austria, it would be very unsettling”, explains Markus Arnold, founder and CEO of Arnold Immobilien, whose company of the same name has its own stand (Riviera 9 / Seaview Village, Stand-N-Zone A) at the fair is represented.
The coming months will be dominated not only by the evolution of interest rates, but also by efforts to reach the sustainability targets defined by the EU, which experts say represent a “long-term task” for the real estate sector. (red.)
