As they discussed many of Marissa’s memorable moments, Barton admitted, “I think I probably only saw it once in my life.”

All three actresses were watching the episode together where Ryan and Marissa were driving together when an angry Volchok (Cam Gigandet) rammed into them as he claimed he wanted them to stop so he could “stop this”.

However, he ends up getting Ryan and Marissa’s car off the road when Ryan pulls an unconscious Marissa out of the car before it explodes.

Though he pulls her out in time, it’s too late as Marissa dies in his arms at the end of season 3.

“It was borderline TV death and I really wanted it to be super dramatic and as realistic as possible for The OC to go out with a bang,” Barton said.

While observing the scene, Barton said she doesn’t remember the fire, although she added, “I think because I’m playing dead.”

As Ryan pulls Marissa out of the car and leads her away from the vehicle just before it explodes, Imogen plays Heap’s rendition of Hallelujah as Bilson admits, “I’ve got chills all over my body.”

Bilson and Barton begin to tear as Ryan lays Marissa’s lifeless body on the sidewalk, away from the burning vehicle while Ryan tells her he will get help, but she asks him to stay with her before she succumbs to her injuries and dies.

“It’s the culmination of their whole love story. That middle part is really painful when she asks him to say it with her,” says Barton.

Barton added, “I don’t remember the actual moment of death, so I think I’ll watch it to say I watched it again.”

“Yeah, that middle part right there is really painful when she’s asking him to stay with her,” Barton said, adding, “OK, I don’t want to see the part where he gets so emotional,” although Barton does have one Others saw part she didn’t remember – a throwback to when Ryan and Marissa first met.

“It reminds you when you meet up!” Bilson exclaims while a stunned Barton just adds, “No! OK, yeah, let’s not go there now,” as they tune out the episode.
