“Probable human remains” were discovered under the wreckage of the Titan submersible, the US Coast Guard said on Wednesday (June 28). The tourist submarine disappeared with five people on board in the North Atlantic near the Titanic wreck. The debris from the machine, as well as these remains, which were “carefully collected from the debris at the scene of the accident,” would be analyzed, the chief investigator said. These analyzes are intended to provide “critical elements for understanding the cause of this tragedy”.
“Much remains to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of ‘Titan’ and to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.”

The Titan, a small submersible about 6.5 meters long owned by the private company OceanGate, was the victim of a “catastrophic implosion”, according to the first findings of the investigation by the American authorities. A further investigation was launched by Canada, which had participated in the search for the device.
Debris found 500m from the wreck of the Titanic and at a depth of almost 4,000m was brought back to Earth in Saint John of Newfoundland (Canada) on Wednesday. They are now to be transferred from a US Coast Guard ship to a port in the US, where investigators can analyze them.
