Anthopoulos served as GM of the Atlanta Braves since November 2017 and helped his team finish atop the National League East with a 104-58 record, the best in the Manfred League. However, the Braves lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in four games of the division series. During the 46-year-old’s tenure, Atlanta won the 2021 World Series.

As for the winner, he helped the Baltimore Orioles to first place in the American East. The club recorded a total of 101 wins, thanks in particular to the acquisition of certain GMs, such as substitute Yennier Cano. Elias’ core also includes catcher Adleyrutschman and infielder Gunnar Henderson.

The award was first presented in 2018 when Billy Beane (Oakland Athletics) won it. Anthopoulos never won it despite his success in Georgia.
