MLB Playoffs Live Updates: Rangers dominate vs. Astros in ALCS Game 7; D-Backs beat Phillies – FOX Sports

The American League will crown its champion with a Game 7 between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. Dusty Baker has never won a Game 7 in his career, while Bruce Bochy is undefeated in such games.

Max Scherzer starts for Texas in just his second appearance since returning from injury. In a loss in Game 3, he did not resemble his usual self, giving up five hits and five runs in four innings. Houston will count on Christian Javier and his signature fastball, which was full of life in Game 3.

Previously, the Arizona Diamondbacks stunned the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 at Citizens Bank Park in Game 6 behind eight strikeouts from Merrill Kelly, forcing a Game 7 of the series on Tuesday.

Here are the top moments from the games!

Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros (on FOX and the FOX Sports app)

Seager second deck!

Corey Seager, the second batter of Game 7, made what John Smoltz called a “shock value statement” by hitting a solo home run in the second deck at Minute Maid Park.

Adolis adds another!

Although he failed to force his way out of the batter’s box on his line drive off the left field wall, Adolis Garcia still managed a second run in the first inning by giving him Evan Carter’s long single.

The explosion is followed by a bloop!

Neither Chas McCormick nor Michael Brantley could reach Mitch Garver’s bloop single as the Rangers extended their lead to 3-0.

Javier is already out of the game

Cristian Javier, who had allowed just five total hits in his outstanding postseason career, was retired in the first inning after allowing the Astros four — and three runs — while recording just one out.

Abreu gets one right back!

A Jose Abreu single down the left field line allowed the Astros to hold off Rangers starter Max Scherzer, although he got Michael Brantley on the next pitch for an inning-ending double play.

Adolis AGAIN

Garcia now has a home run of his own in Game 7, his fourth straight game with a home run, adding another run.

Bregman does it!

Alex Bregman cut the deficit back to two with a solo home run off the column below the train tracks in left field as the home crowd erupted in droves.

Game 7 Evan!

Rangers rookie Evan Carter continued to rake in as his bases-loaded double down the right field line gave Texas two more runs.

Who else but Adolis?

Garcia had four RBIs in four innings in Game 7, extending the Rangers’ lead to 8-2. He is now up to 14 RBIs in this ALCS, a postseason series record. The previous mark was held by Nelson Cruz, who was the Rangers’ right fielder in 2011, the last time they were in the ALCS.

The mood in Houston isn’t great

Either the Astros are on the verge of a historic rally or they lose all four games of a seven-game series at home for the second time in five postseasons.

Bryan Abreu is in the game…and hits another Rangers hitter

Abreu, whose two-game suspension was upheld but postponed to 2024, hit Mitch Garver with a fastball that obviously bounced off him and was not intended. Garver was in pain but stayed in the game.

Lowe brings one!

Nathaniel Lowe brought Abreu down with a line drive that flew just over the wall – and Kyle Tucker’s glove – in right field, giving the Rangers a 10-2 lead.

Full highlights below:

Three Ks!

Aaron Nola sent Citizens’ bench into a frenzy to open matters when he struck out the D-backs’ first two batters before Gabriel Moreno hit a single to center. However, Nola quickly recovered and mowed down Christian Walker with a fastball.

I made them pay

In the second, things looked completely different for Nola on the bump. Tommy Pham silenced the Philly crowd with a line-drive home run on a hanging curveball to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.

Back to back!

Enter Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who got a fastball he liked and blasted it over the left field wall to double the D-backs’ lead.

Trifecta

Make it 3-0 Arizona. Evan Longoria jumped over a Nola first-pitch heater on his first at-bat, scoring Alek Thomas from first base.

Back to life!

JT Realmuto brought the Philly crowd back to life by opening the second inning with a double. Brandon Marsh came up big for his teammate in scoring position, scoring a double on an infield in the Phillies’ first run.

Three!

Nola struggled in the third and fourth innings, but Arizona broke through again in the fifth inning, taking a 4-1 lead on a double by Corbin Carroll followed by an RBI triple by Ketel Marte.

Streaky swinging

Ketel Marte tied the MLB postseason record with a sure hit in his 15th consecutive game. He picked up the second goal in that game, giving Arizona a 5-1 lead early in the seventh period.
