MLB postpones Nationals game due to air quality; Yankees expected to play doubleheader: Latest News, Updates – CBS Sports

Air quality concerns from smoke from Canadian wildfires led to another Major League Baseball postponement on Thursday. The Diamondbacks and Nationals canceled their game at 1:05 p.m. ET in Washington, DC and will instead play their game on June 22, the league announced. MLB postponed two contests (Yankees-White Sox in New York and Phillies-Tigers in Philadelphia) on Wednesday as smoke blanketed parts of the Northeast.

“This postponement was decided following discussions throughout the day with medical and weather experts and the two affected clubs regarding clearly hazardous air quality conditions in Washington, DC,” MLB said in a statement.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the league is expecting that both games of the Yankees vs. White Sox doubles game in the Bronx will be played on Thursday. No official announcement was made of a Tigers-Phillies contest at 6:05 p.m. ET.
