MLB rumours: Jock Pederson and Giants agree to MLB free agent contract

SCOTTDALE, Arizona — The Joktober is finally coming home.

The Giants found their roster up Wednesday, reportedly agreeing to a deal with Palo Alto native Jock Pederson, the powerful left bat they were looking for. The agreement, first reported John Morosi of MLB NetworkAccording to reporter John Heyman, this is a one-year deal worth $6 million.

Pederson, 29, is a former Palo Alto high school star who previously played for Farhan Zaidi in Los Angeles. In seven seasons with the Dodgers, Pederson hit 25 homers four times. The left-handed forward spent last season with the Cubs and Braves hitting .732 pps and hitting 18 homers to win the World Series title.

Pederson suits the Giants’ platoon preferences well. He is one of the most dangerous hitters in the game against right-handers with a .341 on-base percentage and a .490 slugging percentage. The Giants were looking for another left-handed bat after the versatile DH opened up another spot on the roster.

In addition to local connections, Pederson has many connections to the roster. He has dated Zaidi before every Giants-Dodgers series and is friends with Brandon Crawford, Alex Wood, Hunter Bishop and others.
