MLB Trade Rumors: Two Teams Check In With Shohei Ohtani; White Sox are interested in Jonathan India – CBS Sports

The 2023 MLB trading deadline is August 1 of this year. Just one more week. Trading activity got underway last Wednesday when the Orioles added the Athletics’ shooting-powered Shintaro Fujinami. It seems only a matter of time before there are more deals.

Here are Tuesday’s rumors to put you off until then.

Orioles, Diamondbacks called Ohtani

The Angels have not, and will not, make a decision on trading two-way star Shohei Ohtani until just before the deadline. That hasn’t stopped the teams from investigating, however, and potentially laying the groundwork for future talks. In fact, you can count the Orioles and Diamondbacks among the clubs that checked in. according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

Morosi describes the interest rate level of the Orioles and Diamondbacks as “due diligence”. Of course, that may be all you can ask for at this point as the Angels are yet to commit to moving Ohtani. In theory at least, both teams are well placed to sign him given the embarrassment they face in terms of interesting position player prospects.

Astros is looking for “good, old-fashioned” trades

On a pre-game show this weekend, Astros assistant general manager Andrew Ball said Houston is calling out competitors and wanting a “good old-fashioned baseball trade” where both teams get better. according to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

Ball’s comments echo comments made by general manager Dana Brown last month, who indicated they would be willing to change an outfielder to improve elsewhere. Houston’s depth chart includes Kyle Tucker, Chas McCormick, Jake Meyers and Corey Julks – and that’s with Yordan Alvarez and Michael Brantley on the shelf.

White Sox are interested in India

Earlier this week it was reported that the Reds are ready to trade Jonathan India, winner of the 2021 NL Rookie of the Year awards. According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the White Sox are among clubs interested in adding him to their roster.
