MLS: CF Montreal is no match for Cincinnati

A 3-0 win left the Ohio club 7-0-0 at TQL Stadium. The winning streak of the Bleu Blanc Noir ended after six wins.

The game started really badly for head coach Hernan Losada’s side. In the second minute, the crowd favorite managed a standard situation and Joel Waterman faked the ball into his own net.

“When you concede a goal like that, the game becomes completely different and everything becomes much more difficult,” said the CF Montreal driver during his post-match conference.

Almost 25 minutes later, FC Cincinnati doubled their lead. Luciano Acosta took advantage of the unwillingness of CF Montreal’s defenders to create a golden opportunity in the box. The Argentinian didn’t let this chance pass him by and thus scored his third win of the season.

The half-time break was no lifesaver for CF Montreal, who continued to dominate in the second half. FC Cincinnati took the opportunity to score a third goal. Brandon Vazquez fired a low shot in the 65th minute that goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois missed. Once again the defense of the guests looked bad.

“We lost a lot of ball on our territory,” Losada said. We took a lot of unnecessary risks, which I don’t like. This is a team with many attacking qualities. If you give them gifts like that, you pay cash!”

The Belle Province squad now has an away record of 1-6-0. The only win came on April 29 against Sporting Kansas City, the team with the worst record in Major League Soccer that year.

CF Montreal will return to action this Saturday as part of a visit to the New York Red Bulls. The Losada squad will be back in Quebec next week while Forge FC head to the Stade Saputo for the Canada Cup clash. This game is scheduled for Wednesday evening.
