Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, who left CF Montreal in January 2023, would already be back in Major League Soccer (MLS), albeit on the Western Association side.
As The Athletic reported on Wednesday, the American's transfer to Colorado Rapids is about to be formalized. Mihailovic is expected to become a designated player for a club-record fee of $3 million.

The 25-year-old was never able to establish himself at AZ in the Netherlands, to whom he moved for a transfer fee of $6 million. On Tuesday he sat out the club, for whom he has started just three times in 16 games this season, as a move was imminent.
Mihailovic was a fan favorite during his two seasons in Montreal, scoring 16 goals and 21 assists in 68 games. This allowed him to return to the US national team in 2023, for which he appeared eleven times in his career.
In October, he reportedly expressed a desire to return home for family reasons. The possibility of a return to his training club Chicago Fire was mentioned, but several other teams, including Los Angeles FC, the New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati, were reportedly interested.
The Rapids also reportedly got their hands on Zack Steffen, another former MLS player. Goalkeeper of the Year in the Garber Circuit in 2018 with the Columbus Crew, in 2020 he moved to Manchester City. The big English club has loaned him out to Fortuna Düsseldorf and Middlesbrough in recent years.
