Model, banned from flight due to obesity, manages to board

Plussize model and digital influencer Juliana Nehme managed to board a Qatar Airways flight after she denounced the airline for being fatphobic.

Yesterday she published on her Instagram profile that the company prevented her from taking the flight to São Paulo because she was “too fat”. Juliana described her route: First she would fly from Beirut, Lebanon to Doha, Qatar, and later to Brazil.

Today, the model said that she received assistance from the Brazilian Ambassador in Lebanon and also from the Brazilian Consulate in the Arab country to resolve the situation without having to pay for an extra seat in addition to other fees.

“It all happened very quickly. I was at the embassy house where they took me. They said I had to come to the airport. They brought me here wanting to buy it without paying the penalty and the extra seat. [?] Now I’m going to the gate,” he said.

Juliana also thanked for the support she received on social networks. The last video she released was taken on the first plane.

“God willing I will be in Brazil tomorrow, I want to thank everyone who has helped me,” he concluded.

Yesterday Qatar Always reasoned that the requirement to purchase an additional ticket is “in line with industry practices and similar to most airlines” but that it “treats all passengers with respect and dignity”.
