A mechanical failure forced the interruption of a lift in the Mont-Sainte-Anne ski area on Saturday afternoon.

Skiers were stuck in the Express du Sud chairlifts for about thirty minutes early in the afternoon.
A mechanical failure detected by sensors on the elevator triggered the precautionary shutdown, says Hugues Leclerc, marketing and communications director for Mont Sainte-Anne and Stoneham stations.
Mechanics at the station carried out a parts change, and shortly after 2 p.m. the railway resumed operations. The station remained open to customers.
Mr Leclerc points out that the nature of the interruption is “completely normal”. “There are procedures that must be followed. We evacuate and change rooms, as is the case in all ski centers, ”he says.
The incident came less than a week after the resort reopened after being closed for almost a month after a gondola crash. The Régie du Bâtiment du Québec had ordered the ski lifts to be stopped until the starting conditions were met.
Bad luck: The Stoneham ski area was also paralyzed on Friday evening. This time, a power outage plunged the mountain, also operated by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, into darkness.
“Ridiculous, indecent and dangerous”
On social media, elected officials have criticized the difficult situation at Mont-Sainte-Anne and called for government intervention.
“It becomes frankly ridiculous, indecent and dangerous. When will François Legault’s government put on its pants and take over management of the ski resort? ‘ wrote United MP Étienne Grandmont on Twitter.
Mont-Sainte-Anne “is an important economic engine for the region,” said Liberal MP and official opposition spokeswoman for tourism, Sona Lakhoyan Olivier. “The recent power outages are hurting local businesses. What is the government waiting for to act with guidance and transparency? »
