Montembeault in net against the Islanders

For the second time in December and third time this season, Samuel Montembeault will start a second straight game. After Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, he will block the shots of Mathew Barzal of the New York Islanders.

When Martin St-Louis was asked to explain his decision to bet on Montembeault again, he gave a fairly short answer.

“It’s deserved,” he replied.

Of the three goaltenders in Montreal, Montembeault is the one with the best numbers with a record of 6-4-2, a GAA of 2.78 and an efficiency percentage of 0.911.

Jake Allen (3.58 and .901) and Cayden Primeau (3.40 and .902) have not shown as consistent performances as the Quebecer since the start of the season.

A possible change

For the second day in a row, Jake Evans did not take part in training. However, number 71 could be in his post against the Islanders.

Emil Heineman, who was recalled from the Laval rocket on Wednesday, will also have to wait to learn his fate. St. Louis declined to say whether it plans to use it.
