Not everything has been super positive in the world of Jackass over the last few months. While the members of the troupe recently reunited for Jackass Forever, the film which was a box office success and was warmly received by critics, there has been ongoing controversy over the lawsuit Bam Margera filed last August over a contract dispute. However, there seems to be some peace at last as there is a new report that suggests Margera is now settling a legal matter.
This news comes from TMZ, which is reporting the new information based on court documents the outlet allegedly acquired. According to the footage, Margera is being asked to “dismiss the lawsuit,” and the site claims “all indications are pointing to a settlement.”
The main subject of the lawsuit filed by Bam Margera concerns a “wellness agreement” that the actor signed back in 2019 before production of “Jackass Forever” began. The document was a condition of his involvement in the film and required Margera to complete a minimum 90-day stay at a treatment center for his substance abuse problems and to remain sober — only taking medications “approved by the treatment center’s medical staff.”
According to TMZ, Bam Margera tested positive for taking Adderall and was released from production of Jackass Forever in early 2021. Reports of Margera taking legal action against Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze and the studio began circulating a few months later, and over the summer he filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for his work on the new film and his involvement to require in the creation of the franchise.
The case progressed last December when a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled that the lawsuit met the requirements to survive the dismissal and was allowed to proceed. Five months later, it looks like the situation may be finding a resolution.
Jackass Forever is the first film in the franchise in which Bam Margera does not play a significant role, although he can be spotted in the film by viewers who pay close attention. The actor appears in the “Marching Band” sketch, in which several members of the group are seen dressed in uniforms and carrying instruments before stepping onto a high-speed treadmill that propels them across the room. He’s only introduced briefly, but you can definitely see him if you look for him.
We will continue to provide updates on the Bam Margera lawsuit as more information becomes available.
